About the Book

YOU DOWN WITH O.P.D.?

M. Dot Reese

Organization, Planning, and Discipline are words we all have heard before, but when words take hold of the mind, they develop new meaning, giving them the power to transform the way we think. Scooter and Bugz are two teenagers from West Park Village Housing Projects--a rough, violent community known more for its criminal record than its high school graduates. Routine holds West Park Village hostage until TALENT breaks the cycle of negativity. TALENT, a rapper adored by millions, comes back to his old neighborhood to do positive things. Before he leaves, he gives the principles of O.P.D. to the two unsuspecting teens. He shares his wisdom, his money, and these principles. He disappears just as quickly as he arrived, yet the knowledge he has left behind has the power to do more than his presence could ever do. Scooter and Bugz test the bounds of their friendship as they struggle to understand the meaning behind the 3 mysterious letters. On their journey, they discover other principles, and they realize that the road towards better is narrow, paved with tough decisions, lonely moments, and empty promises. There are two roads: failure or success. Take hold or be held captive. Without Organization, Planning and Discipline, one of these boys will discover how easy it is to be left behind in the dust of success, only to become a part of other, people's, dreams.
